AVID Elective — New is designed for middle and high school educators serving as new AVID Elective teachers and new AVID Coordinators who teach the AVID Elective class and may also coordinate the AVID College and Career Readiness System at their school site.

This learning experience will focus on AVID implementation; Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR®) strategies; tutorials; student agency; and opportunity knowledge using updated AVID resources.

Participants will engage in both synchronous and semi-synchronous learning. All strategies, digital activities, and digital tools experienced can be leveraged in face-to-face or virtual learning environments.

Prerequisite: This learning experience is for new contracted AVID Elective member sites for the upcoming school year.

Performance Objectives

  • Understand how the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework reframes how we see student potential. Explore what three critical components are needed to ensure college and career readiness for all students. 
  • Understand the intent of using the AVID Coaching and Certification Instrument to influence AVID implementation with fidelity. Know and understand how relationships impact the success of AVIDbetween AVID students and families, AVID teachers, content teachers, school leaders, and community members. 
  • Locate and utilize key resources on MyAVID in order to fully implement the AVID Elective curriculum, including additional resources throughout the school year. 
  • Engage with the before, during, and after phases of the tutorial process in preparation for implementation within the AVID Elective class.
